CBWR? Epilogue

Author’s notes:
This epilogue is dedicated to my fabulous beta, DK.  It’s just her sort of ending. ;)
I have a fucking mortgage.

Epilogue
“Oh…Edward!”
“Mmmmm…”
“Edward…Edward!  Ugh!”
I blink my eyes a couple of times and feel Bella’s hands against my arm, shoving at me.
“Get off of me,” she groans.  “For goodness sakes, I can hardly breathe, I have to pee, and I need to get ready for work!”
I’ve managed to roll over on top of her in my sleep…again.  I can’t help it –she’s soft and warm and comfortable.
Fucking sue me.
I roll over onto my back, releasing my beautiful wife from my heavy sleep-grip.  She climbs out of bed and runs for the bathroom, nearly tripping over the stack of boxes next to the door.  I had shoved them up closer to the dresser the night before, but they still stick out into the doorway a bit.  I will have to make the bedroom unpacking a priority for today.
Unpacking in our first, real house.
Not an apartment.
I have a fucking mortgage.
The house is not anything grand – just a two bedroom ranch with a kitchen big enough to eat in and a good sized living room.  It has two full bathrooms, too, which is all kinds of awesome.  I’ve managed to furnish a lot of it from yard sales and Goodwill, so the look is a little eclectic to say the least, but still homey.  It’s kind of amazing the kinds of things you can find for very little money when you spend the time looking.
I’ve got the time.
It’s been hard to hold down a job, so I tend to have a decent amount of time on my hands, at least during the school months.  In the summer I’ve been pretty lucky picking up construction or landscaping work.  Even that can be difficult, because I refuse to work under the table.  I’m not taking any chances what-so-ever.  I don’t even go over the speed limit.  When I find the work, I make enough during those months to at least keep us going without too much stress.
Bella is sitting on the toilet in plain view of the bed.  She never closes the door, and it drives me insane.  She always says she just doesn’t think about it and she’s always waiting until the last possible second before peeing, anyway.  Apparently, closing the door just takes too much time.
I reach my arms up over my head and stretch as I listen to the sound of Bella turning on the shower, and I start coming up with my mental list of things to do today.  The toilet in the hall still needs some repair, and there is an outlet in the living room I should replace or at least tighten.  Yeah, the house is a bit of a fixer-upper, but at least the timing was good for buying this place, and it was a foreclosure auction, so we got it for half of what it was worth.  Also, since I’m not working, I have plenty of time for the house stuff.  When you don’t have the money for a plumber or electrician to be at your beck and call, it’s amazing how much shit you can learn to do on your own.
I scratch my stomach and wriggle around in bed a bit – stretching my legs and my neck.  I’m still groggy, but I hear the sound of a fire engine approaching, so I know I won’t be able to stay in bed much longer.  I push myself up and sit on the edge of the bed and run my hands through my hair as I yawn.  Bella walks out of the bathroom with her hair in a towel and nothing else.  I’m immediately awake now, or at least part of me is.
I push my lazy ass off the bed and go to her, wrapping my arms around her from behind.
“Hey baby,” I growl against her neck.  She giggles and writhes against me, which just gets my dick harder as it comes into contact with her bare ass through my boxers.
“You make it very hard to get dressed,” she comments.
“You make it very hard by being undressed,” I retort as I grind against her backside.  I keep kissing along her shoulder.  “I got nine inches just waiting for you, baby…”
“Oh please,” Bella snorts.
“What?” I ask, honestly confused by what is so funny.  If it is a quickie, there is enough time so she won’t be late for school.
“Nine inches,” she repeats as she shakes her head.
“What the fuck?” I say, my eyes narrowing.  I grasp her hips and push against her and repeat.  “Nine inches.  I measured it.”
Bella turns her head and looks up at me.  Her lips as smashed together, but still turning up at the corners as she holds in a laugh.
“What?” I demand.
“Were you looking at the correct side of the ruler?” she asks, and this time she has to bite her lip to keep it in.
Oh very funny.
“I most certainly was!” I snap back.  I’m not really pissed, but I’m not happy, either.
“Edward, darling,” she says in her most patronizing teacher voice.  Her finger traces a line up the front of my boxers.  “I love your big, beautiful cock, but it’s not nine inches long.”
“It is, too.”
“Did you start measuring at your balls?” she asks with her brows raised.
“Oh I am not putting up with this shit,” I say as I grab her and pull her back down on the bed.   “I’ll just have to show you – again.”
I lie on my back and pull her on top of me, pushing up against her heat and holding tightly to her hips.  She leans over me and plants little kisses up the center of my chest.
“Maybe I’ll just make you count the inches as they go in,” I murmured into her ear.
“You know that isn’t going to work,” she says with a nod towards the open bedroom door.  The fire engine sounds are getting closer.  I release her hips and sigh, allowing her to get back up, throw on her normal teacher attire, and start drying her hair.  A minute later, the sound increases as a red fire engine bursts through the bedroom door.
“I can’t believe you bought him that thing,” Bella scolds me.
“What?  It cost a quarter at the yard sale down the street!  He loves it!”
“I’m not talking about the cost, that thing is so loud!”
“Woo woo woo!”
Our son, Anthony, crawls behind the plastic truck as he rolls it into the room, repeatedly hitting the little button on the top, which makes the siren sound go off again.  He’s wearing nothing but his “big boy” underwear, and happily announces that he is not only dry, but already went potty by himself.
“That’s my big boy!” Bella says with a smile.  She lifts him into her arms and rubs noses with him.  My heart begins to pound as I watch them together.  Bella is so loving and attentive to his every need, and it just makes me smile every time I see them.  They gaze at each other with identical, deep brown eyes.  Their looks also match – showing their adoration of each other and a love that can be felt across the room.
It’s indescribable.
I take Anthony from Bella’s arms and place him back down on the carpet near the truck.
“I think there’s a fire in the kitchen!” I announce.  Anthony takes the bait, and I follow him and the truck out the door and down the hall on all fours, leaving Bella the chance to finish getting ready for work while I get Anthony his breakfast.
I find cereal and bowls for everyone, while Anthony pretends to put out a raging fire on the leg of the kitchen table.  There isn’t time to cook Bella a proper breakfast, so I start thinking about what I can make her for dinner as I pack her lunch.  She comes out of the bedroom, looking too fucking hot in her teacher clothes.  It was a good thing she went with elementary education instead of high school or college.  It would drive me nuts if I thought hormonal guys were looking at her all day.  Anthony digs into his Fruity-O’s and Bella eats her raison bran.  Yuck.  That shit reminds me of prison food, and I do not need that reminder.  I pour rice milk over my corn flakes and chow down.
“Mom’s planning on coming over Sunday about noon,” Bella tells me as she finishes breakfast and places her bowl in the sink.  I know this, and I nod slowly.  It sucks because it’s a weekend day, when Bella doesn’t have to work, but I’ll muddle through.
“I’ll make sure I’m out of the house before then,” I tell her between bites.  Our five year wedding anniversary will be in a few weeks, but Bella’s mother hasn’t said much of anything to me other than “may I speak to Bella” when I happen to pick up the phone.  She’ll be in the same room with me if she absolutely has to be – like Anthony’s birthday – but she doesn’t like it.  I try to just get out of the way so she can visit with Bella and Anthony without the tension.
“Edward?”
“Yeah, babe?”
“She said she would like you to stay…if you want.”
I stop shoveling cereal into my face and stare at my wife.  I’m pretty sure there is milk dripping off my chin.  She doesn’t appear to be joking – not that she would joke about this particular topic.
“She really said that?”
“She really did.”
“Why?”
“Honestly?  I think it was the Christmas picture of you and Anthony.   She said something about how much he obviously worships you, and that maybe it was about time she at least thought about giving you a chance.  For his sake.”
“No shit?”
“Don’t swear!” Bella snapped as she looked over to Anthony.  “You know he’s going to pick up on that.”
“Sorry, babe.”  I try to look properly chastised, but I don’t think she buys it.  I go back to thinking about Renee’s impending visit, and try to wrap my head around what it would be like if she didn’t outwardly loathe me.  It was bad enough that when people who were only acquaintances got wind of my ex-con status, they would stop talking to us or having anything to do with us.  “Wow.”
“I know, right?” Bella shakes her head, takes Anthony’s empty bowl and rinses it out while he goes back to fighting fires down the hallway.  “Just when you think some people will never change.”
I refrain from commenting, but still mull it over in my head a bit.  Anyone can change, if they decide they want to.  This I know.
"I thought she was generally still pissed at my lack of job," I point out.
Bella puts the dishes down and comes over to me, placing her hand on my shoulder.
"You have a job," she says as she stares into my eyes.  "You're a daddy."
I smile, because I know she is right and we've had this conversation before.  It is a big job, and it's the best one in the world.
“I have to get going,” Bella reaches over and runs her hand across my face as she leans against my shoulder.  Her touch can still pretty much halt me in my tracks – there is nothing better.  I close my eyes a little and just revel in the feeling as I wrap my arms around her for a quick hug before she has to go.
I hand her lunch in a sack, and she gives me a quick kiss before she heads out the door.  Images of the Cleaver’s run through my head, but with Ward vacuuming and asking June what she’d like for dinner instead of the other way around.  Maybe I should feel emasculated by the whole situation, but I don’t.
I really don’t think I could be any happier.
We moved to Arizona as soon as Bella got word she was going to get the job.  She was teaching third grade at a private school, and we were really trying to get ourselves together away from the looks we received in her hometown and the occasional media barrage living in the same general area where I went to prison.  Even after my parole was over, community service complete and my name of the registered sex offenders listing, there was no escaping some level of it.
You can’t just lie about that shit, not all the time.  People found out.  Some judged, some didn’t.  You had to take what you got.  Starting over – again – was never easy, but we made the best of it.  I never saw any of my business associates again, which also suited me fine.  Sometimes Bella would get pissed off about all the money they had taken from me, but I really didn’t want it.  Blood money.  I’m not him anymore.  Besides, Bella only brought that up when the bills got a little tight.  I tried to make sure that didn’t happen.
Renee retired and moved here to Phoenix the year after Anthony was born, so it made sense to be in the same area.  Bella still needed her mom’s support, and Anthony needed his grandmother in his life.  She was his only extended family after all.
“What ‘cha got there, buddy?” I ask as Anthony bounds into the room with his hands grasping colorful plastic items.  He holds a small red boat up with one hand and two little plastic sailor guys in the other.  The people have round bottoms and fit in the molded holes on the boat, so they can be sailed around in the tub.
“Bath!” he calls out.  I laugh, pick Anthony up, and toss him over my shoulder.  He giggles, squeals, and conks me on the head with the plastic boat.
I can’t explain why, but bathing Anthony is my favorite thing to do in the whole freaking world.  He loves taking his little boats in the water, and there is something about just caring for him in such a way that makes my heart soar.  It started in the first few hours after he was born, while the doctor was checking on Bella, and the nurse asked me if I’d like to wash my son.
My son.
I smile to myself.
“Potty first,” I remind him.  He tries to spend time convincing me that he doesn’t have to go, but I eventually win by tossing a handful of generic Cheerios into the toilet and teaching him to sink them.
Hey, we’re guys!
Fu…well…um…just sue us, okay?
I lower Anthony into the warm water and get just the right amount of name-brand baby bath and baby shampoo to get him cleaned up and ready for the day.  It is the one thing I refuse to skimp on.  I watch him float the little boat around, knocking the plastic people into the water, rescuing them, and knocking them overboard again, as I wash his hair and make sure the spots behind his ears are clean.
I never stop smiling.
I have a house, a fantastic son, and Bella as my wife.  Yeah, people who find out about our past tend to get pretty judgmental, and finding work for me is always going to be a hardship.  There’s a beat up Chevy truck in the driveway, and not a fancy, expensive car.   We don’t have a lot of things or a lot of money, but we have each other, we have Anthony, and we have love.
As far as I am concerned, it couldn’t be better.
And in this, I know I am right.
No reason to ask.

Story End Notes:
And so ends the story of Doofusward turned Edward Swan.
I hope you enjoyed it!  I really am completely overwhelmed by the response this story got, from beginning to end.  I’m glad there were people willing to ignore the drama and keep reading.  I’m very thankful to everyone who supported me through the rough times, encouraged me, and kept me going.
Extra, extra thanks to Just Robin for helping me get this site together (well…okay...doing it all.  I’m useless!), Lolypop82 for her fabulous manips to go with the story (can’t have those on FFN, huh?), and all the people who made banners, rec’d and reviewed this story, and generally pimped it out.
As far as those who bailed either early or late – they missed a fun ride.  I’m a roller coaster person myself, and will choose to leave the carousels to others.  Nothing wrong with going in a circle on a plastic horse – I’d just rather be flying down a hill with a ridiculous grade getting airtime.  That’s just me.  Might be you, too.
Until the next one…
Savage – out.
Stop by the twilighted forum and say your *sniff!* farewells!

Now to answer a few questions people have had:
Am I going to make this whole story available for download in PDF?  No.  At least, I don’t plan to.
Are you going to take down this blog now that the story is done?  No, I plan to leave it right where it is.
Are you going to do a sequel?  No.  It’s done.  They’re having a wonderful life.  There is no more story to tell.
Are you going to do any outtakes?  Not in the current plan.  Unless I get inspired by some charity, I don’t see this happening.
Are you going to do another story with this sort of posting schedule?  Maybe.  We’ll see.  It’s been fun, but kind of stressful, too.  Not in a bad way, but I do need a break.

  2. Shay, this was amazing.  You brought so many emotions out in us. AND in them.

Edward has grown into a fine man, a wonderful father and a devoted husband.

AND it seemed REAL the way he did it.

    Simply wonderful.

Can't thank you enough for sharing your talent with us.

  3.  Aaaaaah, how wonderful! The perfect ending  - their life is good, it's not all unicorns and roses, but it's great, cause they're together and have a family :)
Thank you for this story - you kept writing through the drama and I'm glad you didn't give up on us, because we didn't give up on you ;) Well, most of us anyway :)
I can't wait for any new stories you have planned AND for the UC update ;)
    Much love!

  7. Yes! Edward has learned to give love and he sure gets good love from Bella and baby Anthony too...that's what I had hoped for...glad Renee is coming around a bit too. Your HEA was very realistic...and it makes me smile. Thanks Savage! I can't wait to read your next story :)

  15. I felt so emotional reading that...he was so happy...the surprise that they had a child...that he was a stay at home dad while Bella worked...but oh boy...when Anthony said 'bath' I was done for. Thank you for that beautiful epilogue...my favourite ending of all your stories. They still had to face difficulties as do we all...but they are together...they are happy and they have love and a son. And after all that Renée wants to try. I don't blame Renée for how she feels at all. Edward signifies everything she lost. So...really...admiration in bundles for that woman for trying at least.

  16. Thank you so much. It was a wonderful ride. Not the ending I would have chosen but your endings are never the way I think they are going to be. That's what keeps me reading them!

  17. Shay, what can I say? I loved your ending, it was so real for a HEA. I will miss my daily fix but I am so looking forward to the rest of UC and anything else you want to write for us in the future. You are, without a doubt, one of the best writers in fan fic, period. 'Til the next time baby!

  18. This story is perfect - I dare say one of the best in the fandom - for its plot is very original, it is exeptionally well written, complex,  stirred my emotions like not many others, I never knew what would happen next, the main charachters developed incredibly to real life people and , what was unbelievable, there is plausible HEA !
As many times before, I have to say that if you, Dear Author, had followed the  usuall way many fan fiction author's follow and make things easier, we wouldn't have been so heartbroken but we wouldn't be so happy and satisfied now .... Life itself is hard or cruel most of the time and how you told this story made it REAL.
Thank you, Savage. Till we meet again, I hope. I will lurk in the shadows.

  19.  Everyone deserves a HEA, whatever that means to them.

Love the realistic ending - some peeps can overcome so much pain, abuse, heartache, and still love. It is a miracle that astonishes me.

Thank you for sticking with this story, and surprising me at every turn. Loved the frequent posts, but can't imagine how you kept up the frantic pace.

Love our convos and your honesty.

    xx

  20. Savage, I don't know how you do it. You always draw me into your worlds with your stories. You had me at Hide and Drink and you've kept me through all the rest. Love your style. Things aren't pretty but love will prevail. Life is like that, too. Well.....maybe not to the extremes in your wonderful stories, but our everyday lives are full of ups and downs. One thing is for sure, persistence pays off.

Enjoy some time for yourself.... but not too much. ;-)

    Cheers!

  21.  What a wonderful ride and ending!! I try not to start WIPs, since I have so many, but I could not help it when you started this one. Been here from beginning to end. Hangs head...now I need to start UC.

Take some time off....keep those computers going and sometimes the idiots that use them.
It may have been stressful, but I loved the lil short chp and frequent postings just as QF did hers.

You are right....Could have been worse...........

  22. Ok, let me put my tissues down. (sorry, but the "bath" bit does it every time. This was the perfect way to start my day. When I got the alert for this non-chapter :-), I dropped what I was doing, and went right to reading it. It is an excellent story. Love the imperfect ending. Well, actually it IS perfect. It is perfect for them. I love the stay at home dad bit, how Bella stuck by him, and how they became stronger people because of it. Renee is finally coming around, it's about time! Edward has more than paid for all his mistakes, and I think if they had a lot of money things wouldn't be as good as they are between them. I can't wait to read more from you! Thank you for putting up with all the trouble from FF, and finding this place to continue this story. It was worth every chapter!

  23. Ahhh, doofy grew up and is a family man now. Loved how you ended it. I always worried that he would get hunted down by former associates or something. It's nice to see him living a peaceful life.

  28. Perfect ending. Those who bailed are stupid, this story was great.

  29. Nicely done. Not a perfect life, but so much better than he had growing up and so much better than it could have been. I love his priorities and the fact that renee came around.  My only gripe is the Gang and how they stole his money and never checked on him. They were the closest thing to family that he had. I mean, I know they were criminals, but there was just nothing redeeming about them.

I'm astounded by your ability to keep these updates up, and to post a story that was engaging through 101 chapters!!! Loved it, and thank you for keeping me so entertained:)

http://www.pdf995.com/download.html  All I have to do is right click my text documents now, and click print. I told it to go to my desktop. And there it is. It really is great. Free. And works really great.

  39. It is difficult for Bella and Edward and there are things they can't do anything about (the ostracism, Edward's unemployment), but they have accomplished so much during their hardest first years as a family - a son, a house, a teaching job for Bella, Renee's acceptance of Edward. "Bella is so loving and attentive to his every need, and it just makes me smile every time I see them." - he has finally a real family. Edward taking care of his son melts my heart. "Bath" - so clever and touching!
Bella doesn't feel OK in closed confined spaces, reminding of her cell, right?
“Maybe I’ll just make you count the inches as they go in...”, "I eventually win by tossing a handful of generic Cheerios into the toilet and teaching him to sink them. Hey, we’re guys! Fu…well…um…just sue us, okay?" - LOL, love the awesome humor!

"And in this, I know I am right. No reason to ask." - the best ending!
Dear Savage, thank you for the marvelous story! I am happy that you write fanfiction and share it with us. Wish you and your family all the best! Looking forward to your next stories!

  42. You're some kind of evil genius for figuring out a way to give them an HEA. To go from one of the most effed up beginnings ever, to prison and suicide attemps, to a baby and a mortgage. It's amazing the way you worked that out. When you first started posting this story, I never expected it to turn into something like this! Thanks for the ride!

I was in awe of how you took such a sorid topic and made it into this great tale of a man truly becoming a man. You took someone so dirty and so lost and made him stronger, better. You took a girl who lived in a normality and thrust her into the broken shadows of life. You made her grow, and blossom. You had supporting characters that actually supported! Yay Seth! You had bad guys and villains that were just doing their thing, but made me like them so much. I miss you gun toting Alice! You kept the story real and didn't sugar coat shit! Fuck yeah Renee! And you showed us how even when in jail there are angels everywhere. I believe in you Irina. And you left me with hope, of a future for those two that even though there will be struggles. I see you little Anthony.

    Thank you,

  52. Awwwww!
They are poor but very happy...And that's the only thing that really matters.
Money is not synonymous of happiness.
Thank you very much for sharing another of your fantastic creations with us.

  53.  I wanted to write something very witty or profound to let you know how much I enjoy your story(ies) but everyone else beat me to it.
So I decided to tell you why I keep reading them.
    They are real.
     In unreal circumstances.
Your characters come alive and it is easy to picture them interacting with each other.
I think this is the key to storytelling .

    Please don't ever stop.
    You are greatly appreciated.

  54. Edward is right, they don't have luxury or a lot money, but they have something money cant buy.

i don't know about everyone else, but to me this was a perfect ending, as long as they are happy and together, who cares what crappy  car they drive.

thanks for this beautiful ending shay, you had me worried for a while.  =)

  56. Thanks Savage for a great ride and another great story. Only thing I wish to be different was one of his associates had a conscience for Bella and mysteriously sent her some of the money they'd gotten out of Edward's business, then they wouldn't have struggled *SO* hard, but I loved this outcome just as much. Thank you for all the time you put into this and for sharing your hard work with us!

  60. Roller-coasters for me as well. :)

Loved the epi and how realistic you kept it. And I have to tell you that as much as I've thoroughly enjoyed this story, I'm a tiny bit glad it's done so that I can go back to spending more time on my own story writing. I've been neglecting my writing - big time, so that I could stay caught up with this. Lol

As for those who bashed the story and bailed...well you know how I feel about that. Their loss. And they lost out on a lot!

Thank you for taking the time to do this story and share it with us. Now, take a nice lil break and recharge your batteries. You def. deserve it!

See you next time, Shay (or on Twitter - now that you brought me over to the dark side...lol)

  61.  I loved this story. One of my favourites. It's been a great ride. And I really how you loved keeping it all real. You didn't cut corners. You didn't skimp. You shot straight and kept it all going, even when it was painful. I think the only thing that I desperately want to know is what Edward's parents were thinking when they left him. Why did they do it? I gathered that his mom was depressed, but what drove them away? I've imagined anything from his mom committing suicide away from the house and the dad taking off to drug dealers taking them out. *shrugs* Or maybe just her deciding to leave to try to get herself straight and thinking it'd be better for both Edward & Carlisle and then Carlisle taking off because she was gone. That's just one thing I've been curious about. Not that Edward ever needs to know... but I do. ;)

I loved Anthony and the bath... so very sweet. And it's great that Edward is such an awesome dad. Thanks for the journey! I've really enjoyed it.

  66. I acn't believe it's over!!!!! You, dufous and Bella and the story arebgoing to be ver much missed, you know right?
It ended as it should, with them together, living a good, happy but not perfect life. Those aren't real.
Yes, it would have been awsome if they could have been able to keep some of the money, but as Edward said, it was blood money and not who he is now. You did tell us a while ago that Alice and the rest were business associates, nothing more. And honestly, they weren't very good people to begin with, so they couldn't have grown a conscience to help Bella and Edward.
I loved the fact that you kept the story real, especial towards the ending. Happily ever after fairytale type of endings are great but fairytales. This is how life could go with lots of effort and plenty of not too easy moments.
Renee wanting to give Edward a chance, is really nice, and the reason she is doing it for is the best one there could be. That's the one thing I would like to read the most about, that conversation and how both of them plan to make it work, for Bella and Anthony's sake.
Once again, thank you for writing this story, sharing it, and keeping it going in spite of the complicarions that rose through the process:)

Thank you for sticking with the story, and my GOD, the posting schedule...it must have been a killer.  Or that plot bunny was chewing your ass in a most painful way.  This story became  one of my favorite stories in the fandom, and I'm so glad you shared it with us.

  72. I loved this HEA....especially nice touch having Edward giving HIS son a bath.....he has changed so much, and yet still seems to be paying a little for his former life.  I guess that's what happens when you are an ex-con.  I'm glad he didn't take any "blood money" from his crappy ex-"gang.".  Now everything he gets is completely his and Bella's!

I thank you so much for this wonderful story.  I'm sure it was stressful on you, posting daily, but it was so awesome for your fans!  You did a great job.

  75. Thank-you for never being predictable but in a good way you know what I mean? You never just add drama for the hell pf it or just to be "unpredictable"  you are just a real creative thinker and add interesting details and plot  where needed and it all makes sence in the end. You always bring "it " home.

Loved the epilogue and I am so glad you did not bring his former work associates back into their lives. I would have hated that. I am of the same mind as Edward that the money he used to have was blood money and he is not that person anymore so of course he doesn't want any of it anymore, everything he had before was tainted with the same brush so good ridence.

Loved this story very much and I am so glad they have a son and a home and moved far away and that Renee came with them... Charlie would be glad of that... that Renee and Bella are together and close again. Bella is being taken care of by two people who love her very much and she is loved and she has a beautiful son so yes Charlie is looking down and having second thoughts about Edward and is okay with how things turned out I think.

I love that Edward is happy with bath time with his son... makes me think that sometimes bath time was happy for him too ... with his mom. Thank-you for this story and there was never any doubt about sticking with you. Take care. Have a rest now... but why do I have a feeling that there is no rest for the weary Shay Savage?

  80. Awesome; simply awesome.  Yes, I love a good roller coaster.  But, you do it with class.  You have great characters, interesting plot development, enough realism to allow us to suspend our disbelief... I think one critical feature you accomplish in this type of tale is good pacing.  There is fluff & angst, fear & hope, but you didn't drag anything out unnecessarily.  THANK YOU!

When I feel a little better I will thank you on the thread as well.  Best wishes to you with your writing.

  87. "Fu…well…um…just sue us, okay?"
I think this is my favorite phrase of the whole story. I don't know why. Maybe because it shows both doofusward and edward swan and the reason he changed.

  94. Awww, sweet ending. Daddyward always gets me. *sigh*

I am sooo not a rollercoaster person in real life LOL, but definitely when it comes to fic. A story that's all happiness and rainbows just isn't very interesting. I've said it before, but your Edwards are always so fascinating precisely because they're not perfect. Thanks for another great story! Still a big fan. ;-)

  96. I loved the epilogue to this so much. It was just perfect. I loved that Edward is a stay at home dad, and I love that you have emphasized the importance of that job in your story, being a stay at home mom myself.  When you come down to basics, it is our family and the people we love that are more important than anything else.

    ReplyDelete
  97.  He is a stay-at-home Dad :D Who would have thought? It really suits him, though. The last part where he talks about how happy he is to give his boy a bath and just spend time with him almost made me cry. He has everything he wanted and he really appreciates that, his family. I'm glad Renee is more accepting and I definitely get why she wasn't before. Trust, if it had been my daughter, I would have cut his balls off.  So I think he definitely got off light LOL Thank you for keeping it real and not making it picture perfect. You definitely gave me a few scares along the process but then again that's what you always do ^_^  You know what? In a way I do think it's picture perfect; they have each other and that's enough to make them happy.

I know, I know, I'm a cheeseball LOL Until next time bb xx

  101. Edward bathing his son brought tears to my eyes and a huge smile on my face.  Wonderful story Savage - thank you for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  102.  Wow! What a perfect ending! You so clearly showed what real happiness and fulfillment are and the things that bring them... love, family, purpose... not money or power.

I was hoping for a little one for them and Anthony is just right! Like many of the others, the bath scene had me feeling quivery. :) Truly, I understand exactly what Edward was saying. Caring for someone like that, especially a child, your own child who is entrusted to you to care for, well, it just leaves me feeling full and satisfied. I had a sort of rough childhood myself and when I had children, I reacted the same way Edward is... I lavished all of my love on them and tried to give them the childhood I wish I had. Even giving them experiences like going to the zoo or reading books in bed... I lived for those times. Now they're grown and when sweet family moments happen, love to tease me with the oft used saying, "are you going to get teary, Mama?". Stinkers.

I'm just so happy for who Edward is now. I was one of those who wanted him to get his money back and maybe move away where no one would know anything about them. Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does allow for nice comforts. But, really, this shows better what his real happy ending is... Bella, love, family, being a good man... even dealing with the lingering effects of his reputation, but doing it together. Oh, and thank you for letting Renee come around a little. I do think that is also true to life. She hasn't forgiven easily, but seeing years of Edward be a good husband and father would start to soften her, I think.

Really, just thank you for giving us this story. It won't be forgotten.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Oops. I forgot to mention the bath. So perfect that he likes giving his son a bath. Providing him with the love he never had. Bath?

  107.  I loved this story! I love a real character with flaws and growing up to do, and Doofusward really had a long way to grow here. The roller coaster was pretty entertaining, and it was fun to be able to catch up a little every day. Like an addicting soap opera. The manips were really lovely!

  110. This is easily one of the best stories I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I am so freakin' proud of this Edward character. He started out as most cocky Edward's do but somewhere along the way, he realized he could because better person. He went through he'll to get where he is but he did it and he did it well. Thank you so very much for allowing us to experience his transformation. Your writing is absolutely amazing.

You gave them a life.  A nice normal life, thank you for that.  Thank you for the whole thing.  What a crazy ride eh?!  When I think back to that first chapter to now, I never saw it coming but I sure as hell am glad that it did!

  116. Well, you've earned a break, Savage.  Thank you so much for all the time and effort you've put into this awesome story.  It certainly was a bumpy ride, and I'm not just talking about the plot!  As many of us said at the time, it's FFN's loss.  And as you pointed out, we couldn't have those fab manips in the story if it was still there.  ;-)

I couldn't be happier with how this has turned out.  Thank you for not bothering them with an unwelcome visit from Alice and company (that would not have ended well).  I know some people wanted them to give his money back, but like Edward, I view it as blood money, and I'm glad they're making do without it.

And thanks for having Renee give him a chance at last.  I figured a grandchild would change her perspective on some things, particularly as she can see what a caring, responsible person he has become.

BTW, you had me in stitches when he put the cheerios in the toilet bowl so he could teach Anthony how to sink them.  Yes,
they are guys...and it's adorable.  He has such a bond with his son, so
unlike his own deadbeat parents.  The bath time was a nice touch.  Edward makes a
    good house husband.

What I love so much about this one is that it has everything—romance, drama, angst, humor...  It's just awesome all around.

    Thanks again!  :-)

  126. Lovely!  Not the flawless fairytale where all their money worries are gone and he founds a new business and all, but this is more satisfying.  More real and somehow more solid.  Adore how he even censors his "sue me" even in his head! lol  Very telling.  Nice use of Renee to show that if they keep being themselves and walking the walk things will improve, but that there will still be struggles.

I'm seriously going to miss this!  It's been a fun and thought provoking ride!  Thanks!!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Perfect!

Little Anthony broke my heart asking for a bath because I instantly remembered Edward's previous experience. His story will be different though because he has two loving parents. I'm so happy for them.

I have noticed a theme going on with authors on the stories I have read since I started reading fanfiction in 2009. Their 1st child is almost always a boy (on all the stories I have read I think there have been only 2 girls as a firstborn). I wonder why. Is it because there is a general linking on baby boys or SM traumatized you all with the naming of Renesmee?

Thank you so much for all your hard work in making this story. For me it was perfect (even with the ups and downs and all the heart breaking angst, and boy did my heart broke a lot in the final chapters).

    Now back to the shadows...

    ReplyDelete
  128. Edward is right of course that as long as they have each other and love they do not really need anything else.  And when you know all is right, you certainly do not need to keep asking, right?  But there is nothing wrong with having money either, so I really would have liked him to be starting some sort of business endeavor.  I love that he is a stay-at-home dad, but he could run a small business from home.  But anyway, they are happy, and that is the most important thing.  I never considered bailing, and truly I like a "little" angst, and even though I did not always agree with your decisions on our Edward I always understood your logic.  Thank you for bringing them the happiness they both deserve, and thanks for little Anthony.  He was a very welcome bonus.

    ReplyDelete
  129. This was a great epilogue, although I would have loved to see some friendly
    interaction between Renee and Edward.

It's not at all surprising that he assumed the full time parental role in
the family, considering that his father never cared about him. And I just love
the little one....when I think back on Edward's mom refusing to give him a bath
I can also understand why Edward's favorite time with his son is bath time.

And he is right: he and Bella may not have many things, but they have a
home, a beautiful son, each other and above all, love.

Great ending! It couldn't be better, right?

I have already told you how much I love this story and your writing.. and now the epilogue..WOW..Edward found his niche in life and he couldn't be happier bathing his son and loving his wife.. cause you know what we as humans really need.. nothing else but to be loved and give love and the rest will find its way and Edward never felt wanted or loved! Like I said..he has found his niche..through a very mixed up..fucked up intense way but needless to say it was fucking awesome that he found it!!

  134. awwww how wonderful savage!! they're so contented with their life and like edward says they don't have much but they have each other. and it's awesome that they have a little boy and that edward is a wonderful dad and husband!! it seems that edward is way happier with his life now than he was when he was filthy rich but it would've been nice if they had a little extra money behind them but oh well! at least they're happy and renee needs to get over herself and just revel in the fact that her daughter and grandson are happy and edward has everything to do with that! you rock to the max and thanx for this excellent story! i loved it so much and love that edward gets to give his son a bath whenever he wants it and they enjoy the time together!!

  135.  This is the first time I review, but I must confess I have been with you since the beginning and it was an amazing ride! great story and I love the way you write, so let us know when you star the next one ;)

  136.  Full Circle. Nice when that happens. Wish it happened more often. Its even nicer that after all the pain and heartache and time, they still love and like each other and that brings out the best in their children. Especially boys. I think this is the first fic where the rest of the gang didn't stick around. But just shows, sometimes the canon script needs to be thrown out the damn window because they just maybe not what you really need.
    Bath?

  137. Savage as always you rock my world with your story telling abilities, loved the ride and cannot wait to get on for the next!

  138. You ended their story perfectly! Everything wrapped up and didnt leave us hanging! Thank you soo much for that! I can't tell you how it bothers me to read a fic have it end and feel like the author just cut everything off! I love the rollercoastsr! Once in a while I read something else but usually like the angst and the up and downs! Thank you for sharing and loved the format! Hope you consider doing it again sometime! Take care, and thanks again!.......Karen

  139. This was a really fun story - a little dark and twisted, but a lot of action and humor to balance it out.  Bravo.

  140. Forgot to add: I love how you introduced the baby. I didn't catch on to the firetruck meaning until the very end. It was a really nice (& RL) touch.

    ReplyDelete
  141. That was all kinds of awesome. Thanks for the ride! Loved every minute!

  142. Love the epilogue. They both found healing and are happy in their perfectly imperfect life together as a family. And that's what it's all about, right? Loving, sharing, giving, caring, and enjoying the wonderful/beautiful moments life gives us; working through the ups and downs to find your happy and be content.

When Anthony said "Bath!" I had tears with a smile. I understand why Edward won't use the cheap baby bath. This is special for him. He's taken this sad memory of his childhood and made it so it will be a happy memory for his son. The bad things that happened to him has made him a better father, made him appreciate his family and love them deeply. This is a good thing :)

Loved this story. Thank you for writing and sharing.

  146. Dearest Shay, once again you have gifted us with a wonderful story that has taken us on a wild ride, and as with all your other fics we never really know quite how you're going to give us a happy ending, or even that you will.  That's the cleverness of your writing, that we're never quite sure what's going to happen.  This closing epilogue was just so perfect, though, and wrapped everything up so well.  I have to admit, I was really keen for Edward to have access to hidden wealth once he got out of prison; I even thought maybe his delinquent "friends" would come up trumps and give him back some of the money they stole.  How wrong I was to harbour such skewed ideals.  What you did was so, so much better.  You showed that it is possible to build a good, worthwhile and happy life, based on love, friendship and respect, without the trappings of wealth - which was surely the lesson Edward spent all those years in prison learning.  To then have him embrace his ill-gotten gains upon his release would have flown in the face of everything he went through to find and understand the true meaning of happiness.

And with the "bath" part of the story you managed to reduce this hard-nosed old trollop to tears, damn you!

As ever you did all this with great humour as well as pathos, with just the right amount of smutty goodness.  Brilliantly done and I so wish I'd copied this chapter by chapter to save, but 101 instalments is a bit much to start from scratch.  Never mind, I'm off to read the latest chapter of UC (BTW, loved the Tsunami outtake and posted a review on your main blog).  Thanks, as always, for sharing your wonderful work.

Oh, and Bella?  It may not be 9 inches, but there have been detailed investigations, using a certain 25 yo English actor as a random specimen, and the general consensus is that it's 8.75 inches .... I doubt you'd miss that last quarter inch as you measured it going in LOL!

  147. Friggin loved it!!!

  148. I love the ending. I think I cried a little when Anthony said bath...the irony is not lost on me.
I really do love the person Edward has turned into. It shows just how far a person can come with a little faith and a little love.

Also, I have a Pastor Lee at my church so that bit was funny.
    Amazing story Savage

  155. I am confused as to why he had no money. He was very wealthy. What happened to his money? Even with the loss of his business..Did he not have savings? A Man like this would have had accounts even out of the country.

  159.  Let me start by saying thank you! This story put you through a lot, not to mention all the time and energy in just writing it!! I absolutely adored  up to chapter 89. Although cried and damn near puked through what B had been through. I hated chapter 90 and up! As I've said many times now it was your story to tell and my choice to read.. I wish I hadn't read it.. It left a bit of my heart hurting.. :(
I am however glad they ended up happy! :)  Thanks again Savage for all your hard work..

  164. I too am a rolercoaster kind of gal and i've loved this story.  I'm glad he didn't get back in touch with any of those guys, Alice on her high horse about the whole situation, didn't stop her benifitting from it though did it.  I was pissed however that they didn't make sure some money went to Bella for her future, I have never hated a set of characters in a fic as much as these ones.  I have only one more of your fics left to read and that is next on my list xxxxx mwaaaah xo

  165. Giving my nephew a bath is one of my favorite things to do. So I can totally understand why it is one of Edwards.
This epi was wonderful. Everything rolled up into a nice bundle. You did a fabulous job with this story and I'm so glad that I stuck it out.
Thank you so much for taking us on this journey.

  166. I just don't know what to say.  May Rob come to your door with a bag of Scooby Snacks for you just because you are completely awesome!  This story rocked.  I cannot believe that anyone would bail out at any time.  Every chapter was "hanging off the edge of your seat" good.  WTH were they thinking??  How could you not read this til the end??

Have to agree with FluffyLiz when she said she thought about how nice it would be if Edward's cohorts forked over his cash but how that would have gone against everything that he tried to accomplish.

So, Alice was the one that helped set him up I guess, right?  That's harsh, but like you said, Edward did not have friends....just people he hung out with that happened to break numerous laws and all.

What a wild ride this all was to read.  And I like how you wrapped it all up!  Just perfect!

Thanks for writing this and in this manner.  I can only imagine how nerve racking it was to do a story this way but I sure enjoyed each and every chapter.  Take a break, chill, relax then come back to us with some other crazy, wild and interesting story.  We will all be here when you get back!

I am not sure what rock I was living under but am so glad that I found this story.  I started reading yesterday morning and didn't stop until my eyes started crossing.  I even set my alarm this morning so that I could finish it before my hair appointment.  I know crazy, right? (showing the love!!!)

This story is simply amazing, heartbreaking and inspiring all at the same time.  I think it answers the question "Nature or Nurture" very clearly.  I love that Edward was able to overcome his past and be the man that he wanted Bella to have.  It is amazing what love with do to a person.  Especially unconditional love that Bella and Edward share.

I know that life for them is a struggle with schedules, bills, etc - but that is "real".  Most of us don't get the millions and easy street.  While I was pissed that Em and the gang had taken from Edward I understand that "it's business" and it is what the old Edward would have done as well.  I just hate that B&E did not get the money to have an easier life.  But then again - anything worth having is worth working for.

  176. I lost you on FF. After seeing daily posts then nothing my first thought was that you had to take a break. After several weeks or months, I was afraid that something had happened to you. I decided to try and find the story but I couldn't remember the name or who wrote it (I know, I'm a bad person! Really I'm just old and can't remover shit). So, I started looking in the profile of all the authors when I received an update looking for the story. I even looked at yours when I received an update for UC (which I absolutely love) but for whatever reason I didn't see it. Somehow I stumbled upon it and I don't remember how I did (see, I told you) but I was so excited to have finally found it. I was so glad to see that it had been competed because I think I would have had a nervous breakdown just waiting for the next chapter.

I do not cry at movies or over something I've read but several parts in this story had a lump in my throat that I couldn't swallow past. My heart went out to Edward early on because of the way he was raised, and to Bella with what she had to suffer after being kidnapped.

You, my dear, have been blessed with such a wonderful talent! Not everyone can assemble a bunch of words together that makes people laugh, cry, hate, and fall in love with their characters like you can. Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to do just that.

  177. I thought this fic was lost when it stopped posting on FF but then a friend of mine posted a link to here and I've been attempting to read it between appointments at work for 3 days now!! I love the way you worked their story, it was heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time. Thank you so much for writing this.... in one word..... amazing!! Can't wait to see what you bring us next :)

  178. It took me awhile to get back to the story. It was always my intention. I just get distracted a little too easily. Once I started again, I couldn't stop. I'm glad that Doofasward got it together. It made for one enjoyable story. Glad that you were able to post it. Very weird situation on FF. Not right. I look forward to more from you. Your writing is awwesome. Thanks.

  180. Dearest Savage Heart,
You slay me.  Again.  And again.  The end of this story was poignant.  The epilogue was, well, epic.  While not realistic that an arms dealer wouldn't have left himself several caches of money and property, I love that they opt to live like everyday people.  With mortgages, and bills, and worries about nutrition, and baths.  Oh my, the baths!  Edward's favorite time as a child, transposed onto his own son.  And he makes sure his son is not missing one ounce of the love that he needs.  Yard sales and Goodwill to furnish your home.  Been there, done that.  It's so amazing that you have this Edward going and doing whatever it takes to make sure his wife and child have what they need.  Perhaps if you do another outtake, you can give Edward another chance in the tech business.  After Anthony is in school, of course.  A boy needs his Daddy... and his Mommy.  It looks like I have 'Offsides' to go to now.  Lucky me!  Please keep writing.
    Thank You,
    kitty j

  181. Thank you for writing! I love how this story turns out. I love Doofusward, he really tries hard to be a better person, and Bella will not love him if he is less than good! What's more, I love how imperfect his life is. Well, reality is like that. At least he gets his happy ending!

  182. I just wanted to stop and write, I read this whole thing almost in a sitting and well I needed to hit the next chapter button because I couldn't stop. You take that as a compliment right. I lived this story, loved how you made your characters take responsibility for their actions even though it pained us to have Edward incarcerated for 6 years it needed to be done. Now I am heading to UC I like to read completed stories or almost completed. Thanks

  183. Wow! What a ride you have taken us on! I'm so glad that I read your story despite your warnings. Even at the tough to read parts, your writing kept me pushing the next button. 187. Wonderful story.  It occurred to me a week or so ago that I hadn't seen updates for it in a while.  I think I was on the blog looking at something for Unexpected Circumstances, and realized it was posted here and no longer on FFN (I'm sure there's some drama surrounding that).  Anyway, I'm all caught up now and the ending was very satisfying.

Speaking of roller coasters, Cedar Point is just about my favorite place in the world - coaster nirvana.  And I love that I can ride the Dimondback at Kings Island pretty much whenever I want, and watch the fireworks from my backyard.

    Loving Offsides too, BTW

  188. This was a wonderful story. Edward Swan kinda sounds weird to me, but, it is the first time I've seen it happen and I liked that decision that he made. I did see where this story was going in general, but there were a lot of little surprises on the way. I laughed and cried and really just enjoyed reading this a lot. Thanks for writing! 196. This is quite possibly the most satisfyingly unsatisfying realistic ending to a Crimeward fic ever. He actually spent all his time in jail, lost the money.... fanfiction with teeth is right. I appreciate the truth of it. It's weird, being a sexual abuse victim, and a counselor to both criminals and other victims, looking at these last few chapters, and I think you've done a masterful job portraying what it is truly like for people who legitimately repent and are ready to face the real world. The added bonus of actually having someone who loves you out there is rare, but always a joy to see. So I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you for not turning something difficult and arduous into a piece of cake. And beyond that, the rest of the story just rocks. EPov is my favorite, and you write it so well.
